Artist's Comments

11 inches X 14 inches, graphite on Bristol board.

The entire title of this is "The Stroke of Midnight in Turmoil Town.

No particular meaning behind it at all, I guess it just represents all the strange people and things that you run into in strange cities.

Why is it that when we go to a new town we think of it as a sense of adventure when usually they have the same damned stores and kind of people that we do? Of course this town is definitely not that kind of place. Very nightmarish...I like the rough edges with the broad strokes.

Wow...i dont know if i can say much more that that!

it does seem to me that it expresses the feeling of what it's like entering a new city, as =kzeor said.

good work :)

odd...when I go to a new city I am always looking for two things as sort of anchors or to give a sense of familiarity ( security?)
One is a payphone...the other...a clock.
I like the critter climbing the clock stand.

I really like this one a lot. I get a 60's B &W "Twilight Zone" ambient rush from it.

Thanks, Schraham - I'm at least much happier with this piece than the other ones I've been turning out lately. I think we all know a Turmoil Town or two. :)

Thanks for the comment, Kelli - I always try to include a sordid sense of familiarity in most of my works, it goes a long way toward establishing the surreal quality. :)

Thanks, William! That means a lot to me as your work as always left me speechless as well. It's worthwhile for me to know that I've "Wow'd" someone whose work I respect and admire! :)

Life is like a work of art. God is the artist.
We are the tools and He uses us
to create something worth while.

I agree, and as Kelli said, most people usually try to find a familiar base, something to take the strangeness out of a place. I feel the clock probably added to it as it insisted that this wasn't another planet, but simply a really strange place with really strange inhabitants.
