Arcylic on Bristol board Approx 12 X 14

The entire title of this is; "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again." It's a young man after returning home from the Iraq war. In the background on the left side of the subject are his memories of the destruction he's witnessed. On the right of the subject is his current home, a house trailer. It is said that rich men start wars that poor men fight, and that couldn't be more true than in the U.S. Our economy is such that young men often have no recourse but to join the military to feed their family.

The young soldier exhibits what became known in Vietnam as the "thousand meter stare," or the look of shock and awe of a soldier who has seen things the mind refuses to register. He has a smile that never seems to reach the eyes and the shame is that there are so many young men and women returning from this useless war with this look. I HATE this war and the men who started it for their own selfish needs!

Your work is so current; so real. I love the way you describe your thought process throughout your works, and I enjoy this as much as the works themselves. You obviously have lived these experiences. Horrifying, really...
Being Canadian, I feel that our current Conservative govt. is bending to the Bush administration's agenda... I hate the Iraq war, I hate the war in Afganistan... oh, god... I hate war. Senseless...

I actually haven't painted in quite awhile - these are paintings I've had for some time. I think the oldest one in my gallery was done in 2000.

Yeah, with a lot of returning veterans their story is often in the eyes. War does horrible things to people and more often than not, you can't even see the scars.

The terrible part is that so many young women are now exhibiting that trait. The war in Iraq has claimed the lives of many sisters, mothers and wives among American soldiers. I hate this war, and I hate the people who started it. If there were any justice left in this world, their sons and daughters would be among those who risk their lives everyday.

Dude! This is so freakin awesome. How is that for a mature critique, lol. But really it is amazing, I love it

Thank you, it sounded like a very sincere critique and that's more than most people can ask for in these troubled times. :)
