"A thief believes everyone steals."
Edgar Watson Howe

Recently, a dA friend of mine recommended a new dA member who she thought was a very promising artist. The young lady in question is graduating from a university in Texas with a Ph.D. in fine art. She's young, articulate, beautiful, apparently talented and . . . an art thief.

It's bad enough that dA members have to worry about PhotoBucket members stealing their artwork, and it's bad enough that dA members have to worry about companies in other countries stealing their artwork, now we've got people joining dA apparently for the purpose of stealing Deviant artwork and passing themselves off as someone else.

This is the offending member's page: [link]

You'll notice the nicely drawn Mustang in her gallery? Here's the original: [link]

Look here to find a "self-portrait" of Sarah Emily Elisabeth (a.k.a. Lil-draw-girl): [link] If you'll notice the signature of the artist in the lower right corner (in full view) it says Mike Rider.

For those of you who believe that art theft has become a serious epidemic here at dA, there has been a dA club formed to fight it. You can find it here: [link]

I've reported the person to this "club" and hopefully something will be done about her (personally, I favor prosecution under the law), but it wouldn't hurt those of you who believe this has become a serious problem to leave a comment.

Oh, and btw, I STILL want everyone who can to check out these two FINE (and totally legitimate) artists. They're teachers AND excellent artists to boot!

This sucks :shakefist: I've done some image searches through TinEye [link] - great tool for searching possible art thefts and "her" "self-portrait" and mustang sure appeared. God... How is it possible? I'm so tired of this art theft issue *deep sigh* now dA is turning into home for thieves... Pathetic :disbelief: I wonder how would she explain that?

Yeah, it's horrible that people think they can get away with such things. Apparently she's never heard of the social theory of six degrees of separation. We're a pretty tight-knit family here at dA.

Oh, btw, Joban - I had another dA friend who is interested in getting into photography and she made the mistake of posting some questions about photography in the forums (where the sharks swim). Well, she was throughly trounced by the know-it-alls there and kept her questions unanswered. I suggested several of my photog friends (you among them) as very knowledgeable and approachable (I think her questions were regarding Nikon cameras). If she contacts you, she's a very nice and intelligent young lady, could you please give her the benefit of your expertise? :)

"A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art." ~ Paul Cézanne
I can't imagine being attention starved enough to do such a thing. I can't imagine pouring hours into a portrait of Clay Aiken and walking away from it with a shred of dignity either. Sad.

Sure thing, although my knowledge is pretty limited. I'll help where I can :)

there is no one else to report about the teaf?i was reading her, how she write she worked on it 4.5 hours...she i a teaf and a lier too!:(
well it says right in her journal ..she's a baptist ! That explains everything !...

( i like how in her journal she also says: she hates when people lie just to win an argument ...lol...talk about a warped dichotomy of thought process )

( poor little baptist mental victim  )

Better be careful...last i knew ..you could get banned for putting up a journal like this ..you usurp judgemental power from the admins and incite riot ...remember we are in america here which is to say "old communuist russia " actually now.
( of all the irony ..lol )

DA likes an approach more akin to "black bagging" like in the movie V for Vendetta.
You can report a violation yourself under each dev ....(report deviation link )

of course things may have changed and i am unaware of a more tolerant acceptance to finger pointing ( regardless of the damning, factual evidence presented )
( that the violation club never gets banned gives pause for hope )

If that is the case ..my hat's off to a new enlightened administration ...lol

In any artist's community ...the highest art form is STILL free speech. i dont see a category for that here...but i have witnessed people getting banned for it ~ Fangism
