Grab a mop! It's Buckets of Blood!

  • Watching: a cup of Earl Grey steep

No, this isn't a journal about a rampage at a blood bank and it's not a Roger Corman movie about a bunch of pretentious, nitwit beat generation artists in a coffee house. It's the about the most recent works of another dA friend of mine (Bill McEvoy) who has received some attention for work he did on a music video for the band Twiztid. He did the paintings and then assisted in their animation to go along with the music lyrics (and beat).

You can see Bill's excellent work here

:icon1311:

and can catch the video here: [link]

I'm sure all of you will appreciate his art and his dark humor as well. Twistid's music isn't really my cup of tea, but it's not as irritating as "gangsta rap" and, in my not so humble opinion, Bill's work makes the video quite enjoyable.

I hope you all check it out and leave Bill a word of appreciation. He's a really nice guy and it's great to see a friend getting his art "out there."

In a completely unrelated rant - I would like to address all those (invariably young) deviants who are infatuated with Johnny Depp's romantic version of a pirate. I just hope you all (someday) realize that the pirate you idolize is a Disney creation much like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck and like both these cartoon characters has no basis in reality.

Pirates aren't concerned with saving beautiful young women, nor are they prone to toppling oppressive British sea captains for the sake of a Bohemian populace. They're vicious, cut-throat thieves who don't value life and maintain violent armies of children soldiers for the purpose of amassing great wealth for themselves. They wouldn't think twice about holding you hostage or killing you when your family couldn't pay the ransom.

Hollywood has an uncanny knack for glorifying war and making folk heros out of vicious criminals. It's okay to enjoy escapist entertainment, but don't be feeble-minded enough to confuse Hollywood with reality. I really hate to burst anyone's bubble, but when you hear PIRATE don't think of this guy: [link] Think of this guy: [link]

Awesomeness!
And also quite good advice! It's easy to get carried away in escapist fantasies, way to provide links!

I'm glad you took a look, Audrey - you're the only one to comment so far. :)

I'm hoping people won't take my little rant wrong - I'm all for escapist fantasies, but too many people are beginning to think that pirates are cool. They might think otherwise if their father or uncle were sailing off the coast of Somalia.

Yup, I understand the pirate thing. Those guys are damned criminals and not pretty boys.

I'll always look, hahaha.

I'm sure everyone will understand. Especially with all the recent news about actual pirates pirating, it's very timely.

I didn't really care for the Johnny Depp Pirate, but then again I am old :) I mean it was funny, the first movie, then it just got stupid, and he was not attractive at all in it, lol.

I like your friends art:)
:icondecarabia69:
Get the hell out of here, Lea - you're NOT old (I know because I'm old enough to be your father and I'm not old). :)

I thought the first movie was funny too and most people can't believe that's the only one I've seen. It's too bad that so many people are swayed by popular entertainment values into thinking that pirates are "cool." Of course, I railed away when movies like "Young Guns" glorified and romanticized bandits and thieve of the wild west. It's not just the bad guys that are glorified, the good guys are NEVER as good as movies depict them. People have to be battered by unrealistic caricatures by movie studio (or literature) in order to endear them to the public.

Yes, I can understand appreciating a movie character for what he's worth, but to glorify criminals is just wrong.

I wonder how the first movie would have done had it been released during the Somalian pirate fiasco?

He IS a great artist, isn't he? For obvious reasons, I couldn't help but think of you when I saw the band's name. Are you related? ;)
