Eh they would probably have asked for it...

Would the Depeche Mode tour still be stopping in my hypothetical homeland? I might take up arms for that.

I make a Depeche Mode reference about every 3 posts, just so you know. :megaphone::rose::damphyr::absolut:

This sounds a lot like the U.S. overthrowing Saddam Huessein and the resulting occupation of Iraq and our treatment of its citizens etc. all in the name of forcing democracy down their throats.

I would be pissed for sure, that much I do know. What I did about it would be based on specific circumstances. I would do something but just not sure what. I would not do anything that would hurt or kill innocent people (bombs) nor would I kill soldiers who may not have a choice in what they are doing.

I would definitely see them as oppressors. I just don't think I'd have the courage to do anything about it. I might speak to those I trusted or write something anonymously... and of course I would give food or shelter to someone who needed it. I would also try to appeal to the people in power to set any friends/family I had free.

That's a really difficult (but good) question :)

non violent civil disobedience, sabotage etc. would probably be my choice. Anonymous acts of destruction against machinery, supply vehicles, oil pipelines etc.

"acknowledge that torture produces accurate information that may help the occupying military and go along with their intent"

Knowing my friends and neighbors they would be up to no good anyways. :)
Honestly, I'd have to actually be in that situation to decide what action to take.

It's really hard to say exactly what you would do in a situation like that unless you were actually there. Romantically, I'd love to think that I'd go underground, writing letters and articles for underground newspapers, providing information/propaganda in a climate of chaos. But I'd probably either try to escape or go into hiding until the unrest was over.
But the human is capable of suprisingly wonderful things when under pressure and stress, or when they witness the mistreatment of others.

If this country were taken over or invaded, I would take up arms and
do what ever I could to defend my family, friends loved ones and the
country as a whole.
I m not a violent man but in this case I could very easily. And yes if
there were camps I would help to free prisoners.
But in the case of asking if torture produced valuable or useful information. With all due respect my friend it sounds like a loaded
question with no corroborating evidence, from either side.
I respect your opinions and we have discussed this at length.
I respectfully submit that during WWII they didnt use the Army Field
manual to get what they wanted in short order. I m not saying this is right.
Different times and situations. But as far as this waterboarding and
other so called enhanced interrogation. If it worked it worked if not
then it didnt but to keep beating a dead horse and bringing up Churchill and others is a smoke screen.
As I said before let me see the evidence good or bad and let me and others like me make an informed choice not some rhetoric from the Govt.
we all know how truthful they can be. You and I seem to understand each others opinions and respect them. I hope it will continue my friend
take care

If they were torturing my friends and family, I'd definatley do something about it. I would be killed, but that doesn't matter to me. What matters is having the courage to at least try. It might would inspire others, who would eventually band together to stop them.

"If I were human, I believe my response would be 'go to hell'. If I were human."~Spock
:icondecarabia69:
That's an excellent answer and a very normal response. It's also the reason that our "war on terror" as outlined by the Bush administration only works to create MORE terrorism.

People don't respond well to their friends, relatives or neighbors being tortured or killed indiscriminately and your reaction is precisely WHY torture doesn't work.
